Charlyn has played the viola since 7th grade, and music has always been an enjoyable avocation for her. Before coming to Oregon in 1977, she played in the Monterey Bay and Santa Cruz Symphonies, and the Bear Valley and Aspen Music Festivals. She was principal viola in Palatine Hill/Columbia Symphony until 1987, when she started her career in nursing. She was also a member of the Portland Opera Orchestra for 12 years, and rejoined the Columbia Symphony in 1997. Playing chamber music continues to be a passion as well.

As a nurse she worked for Legacy Health for 32 years, in Pediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, and the Legacy Cancer Institute.

Her other enjoyable pursuits include travel, beading, and cooking. She shares daily life with her husband and two cats.
