David Bergmann began his journey into music at the age of 4 with accordion lessons.
Fourth grade presented him with the opportunity to abandon the much-maligned instrument in favor of a "band instrument."
Dave picked the clarinet (all of the flutes were taken), and the rest is history, sort of.
He received his degree in music performance from California State University, Hayward. On the day he received his degree,
Dave sold his clarinet, swearing he never wanted to see one again! Ten years later, Dave's wife, Lisa, bought him a clarinet
at an antique store. How could he refuse? He has been faithful to the clarinet (and Lisa) ever since.
Dave has been playing clarinet/bass clarinet with PCSO since 1996. He has performed with many Northwest orchestras
including the Portland Opera Orchestra, Oregon Ballet Theater, Vancouver Symphony, Newport Symphony, Mt. Hood Jazz
Festival, Ernest Bloch Music Festival, and Oregon East Symphony. Dave finds the consciousness of performing music to
be exhilarating.
By day, Dave is a litigation paralegal. His free time is occupied playing with the Stumptown Winds
(a wind quintet comprised of fellow PCSO musicians) and Clarinets a la Mode (a clarinet quartet, for
which he also arranges music), and operating Wasco House Bed & Breakfast (including restoration of the
obligitory barn and chicken coop). Dave also enjoys the challenge of teaching himself guitar, the exercise
of riding a bike, and the thrill of riding a motorcycle. Dave's accordion sits in the corner of his studio,
patiently awaiting its resurrection.
