Dawn is currently in her eighth season as the concertmaster of the Portland Columbia
Symphony Orchestra. She has had the honor of being concertmaster for the Vancouver Symphony,
Portland State University Orchestra, and the Portland Youth Philharmonic. Ms. Carter has also
played numerous performances over the years with the Oregon Symphony, the Honolulu Symphony,
Portland Opera Orchestra, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and the Boise Philharmonic.
Dawn is excited to direct her fifth chamber music camp in July 2012.
This year's camp will be held at the University of Portland and is open to students of all
ages and levels. Dawn also previously directed chamber music camps in the early nineties.
Dawn received both her Bachelors and Masters of Music in Violin Performance at Portland
State University where studied with Carol Sindell. She has also played in numerous master
classes for teachers including Joseph Gingold, James Buswell, Herbert Greenberg, and Michael Foxman.
Ms. Carter has been the recipient of full scholarships to the Great Woods Institute of
Music outside of Boston and the National Orchestra Institute in Maryland. Dawn was
part of the Portland delegation that toured Sapporo, Japan in 1993 playing concerts
during the 35th anniversary of the Sister City program between Portland Sapporo.
Dawn and her husband Jonathan are the parents of four children: Katie, Isabelle, and
twins Jackson and Jessica Adeleine.
