Never one for complacency, Mike Guess has experienced several diverse and interesting careers
over the years. Mike began work as a broadcast engineer in television and radio in Terre
Haute, IN. This hands-on experience led to work in the design and manufacture of television
production and broadcasting equipment. And, relocations to Grass Valley, CA, Salt Lake City,
and Orange County, CA. Along the way, Mike earned his bachelors degree in business management.
After a successful 17-year career in the marketing of television equipment, Mike changed
industries and became vice president of marketing for a $1.8 billion credit union serving
members in 110 countries worldwide.
In March of 2005, Mike and Mary, his bride of 33 years, relocated to Oregon. They
purchased TRAVELHOST Magazine of Greater Portland in June 2006. Mike and Mary make
their home in outer southeast Portland. Mike and Mary are the proud parents of four
children, all of whom are married. David and his wife Maria are attorneys and live in
Sherman Oaks, CA. Mark, his wife Annie, and granddaughter Julie live in Hubbard, OR.
Although trained as a pastry chef, Mark currently works in construction. Michelle is
married to Howard and lives in NE Portland. She is now completing her masters in art
therapy at Marylhurst University. Bethany and her husband, John, live in Canby. Bethany
is a registered nurse at Legacy Hospital in Tualatin.
Mike attends Abundant Life Church in Happy Valley. As a Rotarian, Mike looks forward
to making new friends and improving our local community and the world. He is a volunteer
representative with Compassion International, a Christian child advocacy ministry for
impoverished children in 20 countries. Mike has been involved in numerous other boards and
volunteer activities and helped lead several mission trips to Mexico for high school
students.
