Brenda Liu had played with the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra since 1990, including four years as principal. She also plays with the Portland Opera and Oregon Ballet Theater orchestras in addition to various summer festivals including Oregon's Peter Britt Festival in Jacksonville.

Brenda graduated from the University of Redlands and has studied with Phillip Goldberg, Virginia Majewski, Louis Kievman, Heiichiro Ohyama, and Michel Sampson. One of her favorite musical moments was playing in the Oregon Bach Festival under conductor Helmut Reilling. Brenda is a certified Suzuki teacher through Unit 4 and maintains a private studio in Lake Oswego in addition to teaching in the Lake Oswego School School District.

Brenda has two adult children; an aeronautic engineer and an elementary school teacher. She dreams to "some day visit China although she has relatives there."
