Seventeen year-old pianist Rosa Li made her orchestral debut with the Far Eastern Symphony
Orchestra at the age of nine in Khabarovsk, Russia, upon the invitation of honored musician,
Vyacheslav Sobolevsky. At the age of ten, Rosa performed with members of the Oregon Ballet
Theatre Orchestra and the Oregon Symphony at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall under Mr. Niel
DePonte as a winner of the MetroArts Inc Young Artists Concerto Competition. She returned on
April 7th, 2006 and again on April 25th, 2008, making her a three- time winner of the Young
Artists Concerto Competition. She gave her first solo recital at the age of eleven, and has been
studying with Dorothy Fahlman since the age of five.
Since 2004 Rosa has been invited to perform in the annual "Ten Grands" for the Snowman Foundation
Concert; this year will mark her sixth appearance as a feature soloist of the show. She recently
performed as a pianist for the Oregon Ballet Theatre in their production of Jerome Robbins's
ballet "The Concert," and for the School of the Oregon Ballet Theatre in George Balanchine's
ballet "Harlequinade." In addition, her achievements include winning 1st place in the OMTA
Chris Tapang Scholarship Competition, D. Suzanne Raines Young Pianists' Competition, OMTA
Dorothy Pederson Fahlman Scholarship Competition, Monday Musical Club Scholarship Competition,
and Trula Whelan Concerto Competition. She was selected as a Young Artist Fellow with Chamber
Music Northwest, and she has also received recognition from the Treasures of Portland. She has
performed with the Portland Chamber Orchestra, and Portland Symphonic Choir as well. And this
is her second time performing with the Columbia Symphony.
Rosa is a consistent winner of the OMTA Classical, Romantic, and Baroque festivals. She has
given both recitals and chamber music performances at the Bowdoin International Music Festival,
Indiana University Piano Academy, and the International Institute of Young Musicians. Rosa has
taken master classes with many distinguished musicians including Paul Roberts, Yong Hi Moon,
Benjamin Kim, Bonnie Garrett, Arnaldo Cohen, Yacov Kasman, Stephen Hough, and Edward Auer.
Last year, Rosa produced and directed a Benefit Concert for the earthquake victims of the
Sichuan Province in China. She also started as a piano teacher for young students. Rosa also
toured Europe as a part of the Oregon Ambassadors of Music Honor Choir during summer 2007.
Besides her love for music, Rosa also enjoys reading, hiking, running, and swimming.
Rosa is an Honor Roll student at Lake Oswego High School where she is also a
participant in the National French Honor Society, National Honor Society, National
Society of High School Scholars, Ecology Club, Peace Club, and Varsity swim team.
