Ruth Sadilek was raised in a musical family in Portland. She began piano lessons at age five
with her mother. At nine, after a year of imploring her parents, she began violin lessons as well. A year later
she joined the Portland Youth Philharmonic Preparatory Orchestra (now PYCO) and went on to spend 8 years in the PYP,
the final three as concertmaster. She spent her 9th grade summer at Boston University Tanglewood Institute on a full
scholarship from PYP.
A love of teaching developed early-Ruth has taught in some capacity since junior high-first coaching her teacher's students,
then giving private lessons while attending PSU. She currently enjoys a thriving violin and piano studio in the Tigard/Beaverton
area where she also coaches chamber ensembles. She is active in the Oregon Music Teachers Association-currently the Portland
District Chair for the String Syllabus program and the Oregon Federation of Music Clubs, serving as a State Director.
In addition to teaching, Ruth freelances in the Portland metropolitan area. She has been a member of the Portland Columbia
Symphony Orchestra since 2003. She has served as concertmaster for the Oregon Sinfonietta and performed with such
groups as the Portland Chamber Orchestra, Rose City Chamber Orchestra, Vancouver and Newport symphonies, Oregon
Repertory Singers and a variety of chamber ensembles for special events.
Ruth's primary teachers have been Carol Sindell, Raphael Spiro, Catherine Petersen.
Ruth has three grown children and two kitties that love her students. She is an avid reader, is active in her church and
enjoys cooking in her rare spare time.
